Assassin Bear (The Battle Cats)

From Atrocious Gameplay Wiki

Assassin Bear is a Black enemy in The Battle Cats, who gained infamy through his unusual attributes.

Licensed to kill. The global financial crisis isn't helping him much though. Please check the flyers. He's offering one million per kill now.

Why It Sucks

  1. Assassin Bear can be one of the most annoying enemies in the entire game due to his extreme stats:
    • He has a movement speed of 150, fast enough to cover the entire stage in seconds.
    • His large area of effect, 800 range, 3000 base damage and 0.27s attack delay can allow him to demolish everything in seconds. 3000 may not sound like much but his attack rate makes him deadly.
  2. The only easy way to defeat him is to use the Cat Cannon, though if you go into a stage blind and is unaware of his appearance (ironically something that should never be done), he essentially equates an instant loss for a couple of reasons:
    • Stage gimmicks abusing time/enemy limits generally contain overbuffed assassin bears or spawn them in swarms.
    • He isn't properly intercepted by a timely cat cannon blast or warded off with sufficient base endurance.
    • The normal cat cannon isn't used, preventing following assassin bears from being hit.
  3. Chubby B. Goode was a bad and weak level for his debut.
  4. His design is a boring reskin of the original Teacher Bear. However, this doesn't change much about him as the same is applicable to many other enemies.
  5. He drops almost no money on defeat.
As demonstrated by Youtuber Chillhola, this is a poor example of fighting an assassin bear in a stage where he isn't meant to be fought. The enemy limit is initially clogged with some overbuffed One Horns, such as the assassin bear can't spawn until one of them has been defeated. A swarm of anti-red knockback specialists should be used to push the One Horns until they're behind the base. Their slow speed and high health allow them to be kept live without threatening attackers used destroy the base, ultimately passing the stage without having to counter him.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Assassin Bear usually isn't meant to be fought and regardless of his strength magnification, he can be avoided in most stages with various strategies. Conversely, if he's meant to be tackled, he easily dies to almost anything due to his pathetic health.
    1. In combination with the normal cannon, recharge combos are very useful for stages where he must be confronted to win, especially if he spawns in unlimited quantities. With them to reduce fire intervals one can minimize his potential damage. Try to study stage layouts before facing him also to further augment this strategy.
    2. Wave/Surge attacks are another alternative, but this is only applicable if these cover the enemy base when the assassin bear just comes out.
  2. Although he's a resprite of the original Teacher Bear, his terrifying appearance is nonetheless somewhat memorable.
  3. As much as he is extremely destructive, killing him would be a sensational experience.
  4. He isn't the worst foe that one could encounter.
