Berlin Tour (Mario Kart Tour)

From Atrocious Gameplay Wiki
Nintendo made the wurst decision of making a real-life city tour. (pun intended)

Berlin Tour is the 35th tour overall, the 7th tour that is a real-life city track, taking place in Berlin, Germany, and the 1st tour in 2021 in Mario Kart Tour. This tour began on January 13 to January 26, 2021. This tour is controversial for Luigi's Lederhosen, which can be considered stereotypical to people from Berlin.

Bad Qualities

  1. This tour shows much potential just like the start of the Baby Rosalina Tour, where the developers ran out of ideas and players began to question how the developers did not create "world" tours (or to an extent, tours with missed opportunities) in advance (e.g. New York Tour (the tour that started the game in a bad note)).
  2. It also shows "wasted potential", the developers would have developed the first variant of Berlin Byways because the country-themed tour will always have the first one, not the second one, and Luigi should wear lederhosen that is themed around Prussia, the region of Germany that is home to Berlin, but these end up becoming a mishap as Luigi wears Bavarian-themed lederhosen and the aforementioned track is the second variant.
    • In the former's case, the first variant of Berlin Byways appeared in Metropolitan Tour.
  3. Misleading Title: Despite Berlin Byways 2 being a Berlin-themed course, there are no Berlin-themed courses appearing on this tour.
  4. It gained some controversy because what Luigi is wearing is considered "racist or stereotypical", causing other players to get agitated with Luigi's outfit.
    • What's even worse is that the said outfit is offensive to people from Berlin itself.
  5. The kart, "Fast Frank" has a laughable design that contained a sausage on a grill.
  6. For some reason, Berlin Byways 2 has only one R/T variant, unlike real-life city tours in 2019-2020 where they have only 2 R/T variants per tour, making it anti-climatic.
    • The effect was extended in the Sydney Tour in April and September where Sydney Sprint and Sydney Sprint 2 have only one R/T variant.
    • Starting from the Penguin Tour, there is only one R/T variant for real-life city tracks, which is disappointing.
  7. There are three courses that did not appear in this tour, despite appearing in the Paid Banners, being 3DS Daisy Hills (from the Pink Gold Paper Glider pack), 3DS Mario Circuit (Rose Queen pack), and DS DK Pass (Wild Black pack), making this tour the most plagiarized Paid Banners in the game.
  8. As mentioned before, every real-life city tours always have the first variant, but the devs chose the second itself.
  9. What's worse is that this tour started 2021 on a sour note, however, it did improve in the later tours starting from the 2021 Cat Tour.

Good Qualities

  1. Berlin Byways has a decent appearance and the arrangement is good.
  2. Cucumber kart from Mario Kart DS made its return after the variant (Dasher II) appeared in Mario Bros. Tour.
  3. 3DS Rock Rock Mountain made its long return after not appearing many times since the Pirate Tour, 10 hours prior.
    • This track was extended in Sky Tour for not appearing on 13 tours since the Frost Tour.
  4. Black Yoshi finally made its permanent playable driver after he is limited to spotlights.
  5. This tour does include the Big City Pipe that featured spotlight drivers from New York (Pauline and Musician Mario) and London (Detective Baby Rosalina and Bus Driver Waluigi)
  6. The Metropolitan Tour was an improvement over this tour, with that tour including more Berlin-themed items like the Pretzel Glider, as well as introducing the original Berlin Byways 1.
