Bowser & Bowser Jr. (Super Mario Sunshine)

From Atrocious Gameplay Wiki
This wasn't what I meant by "chilling in a hot tub"!

Bowser & Bowser Jr. are the main antagonists and boss fights of Super Mario Sunshine. They can be accessed after completing Corona Mountain, and are overall the twelfth/final bosses of the game.

These bosses are widely known for their outright laughable battle and easy difficulty.

Why They Suck

  1. The arena is very boring to begin with, it's just a hot tub resembling a 5-pointed star, and considering the fact that the bosses are relaxing in the middle of the arena, that is no reason.
  2. The water in the tub will make you lose health upon coming in contact with it.
  3. Bowser & Bowser Jr.'s attacks are pretty easy to avoid. The Bullet Bills that Bowser Jr. shoot are easy to evade and Bowser's fire breath doesn't even aim at you. Despite this, you can simply avoid their attacks by turning around. Not only that, this battle feels more like an obstacle course rather than a final battle.
  4. Ignoring this, their attacks are not only easy to avoid, but there are five weak points that make players instantly find out on how to beat this boss by ground pounding each one of them.
  5. While the music that plays during the battle is awesome, it's very hard to hear under the bosses' attacks.
  6. To add on WTS #5, the game can glitch at times, causing Mario to fall through the small cracks of the platforms and result in cheap deaths.
  7. After ground pounding a weak point, the points of the platform will start falling apart, and if you fail to climb back to the top of the arena, you will lose a life instantly.
  8. Even if the attacks are still easy to avoid, if you get hit and fall out of the arena, you start the entire fight all over again. Remember, this is the final boss of the game.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The ending cutscene after you defeat them is good.
  2. The cutscene where Bowser & Bowser Jr. have a father and son moment before the battle starts is heartwarming.
  3. Awesome music, despite WTS #5.
