Brachyura (Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia)

I heard of the term "Giant Enemy Crab", but I was expecting something much more then... this.

The Brachyura is a large monstrous crab who appears as a boss in Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. He's the main boss of the Lighthouse, and is overall the third boss of the game.

This boss fight has been generally disliked by many Players.

Why It Sucks

  1. Brachyura's design is bland: he's literally just a giant crab, and considered that this is Castlevania, a game series thats known for its amazing bosses with epic designs, that's not a great boss design.
  2. There are a bunch of Magnets for the Players to latch on to with the Magnets Glyph, yet there are platforms, so for the first two phases, they serve no real purpose (until you reach the third phase, which is explained on WIS#08).
  3. The Brachyura has a difficulty spike, despite being only the third boss, as his attacks can do high damage.
  4. The overall boss battle is bland and boring: all you do is just damage the Brachyura until he turns red, and attacks the ceiling for you to reach higher, rinse and repeat.
  5. Trying to hit the Brachyura can be a bit annoying, as you are on a platform, and the Brachyua is always below you, so you could miss him a couple of times. Your best option is to either hit one of the Brachyura's claws to damage it, spam the heavy attack, or use the axe sub-weapon.
  6. Most (if not all) of the Brachyura's attacks are easily telegraphed, so even if he hits like a truck, you can simple avoid them.
  7. The Brachyura has a lot of HP with a whooping 1,800 HP in total, and considering that this boss comes pretty early in the game, as well as the fact that you won't have any decent weaponry, this will be a long battle.
  8. In the third phase of the battle, the platforms on the right side of the towers are no longer there, so the only way to avoid the Brachyra's claw punch is by using the Magnets.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Great boss music.
  2. The finisher for this boss is extremely satisfying, as you crush the Brachyura under a spiked car elevator.
