Death Egg Zone (Sonic the Hedgehog 2)

From Atrocious Gameplay Wiki

Death Egg Zone is the final level of mh:awesomegames:Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Eggman flees to his space station after the Wing Fortress is destroyed. It is here that the player will face off Silver Sonic and the Death Egg Robot.

Bad Qualities

  1. The main problem with the level is that this stage is considered one of, if not the most frustrating level in the game, because there are ABSOLUTELY NO RINGS throughout the entire zone! This means you'll have to beat both bosses without taking a single hit or you will have to start all over again.
    • By proxy, that means Sonic cannot turn into Super Sonic if he's collected all of the Chaos Emeralds, since he requires at least 50 rings to transform.
  2. As Tails & Knuckles (in a special version for the latter), he is made ridiculously harder due to their shorter jumps only allowing hits to the stomach.
  3. Silver Sonic becomes increasingly difficult, easily killing unwary players.
  4. The Death Egg Robot takes 12 hits to go down making it extremely tedious and unforgiving if you die.
  5. You must time your jump attack perfectly or else you will hit the Death Egg Robot's hands and die.
  6. Because of his lower jump height, Knuckles can't even hit the body of the Death Egg Robot. The only time he can attack is during the landing of it's stomp attack.
  7. If you manage to end up behind the Death Egg Robot after the stomp attack, it launches explosives at you that almost guarantee death.
  8. After you’ve defeated Silver Sonic, you will then face the Death Egg Robot, who is not only the hardest boss in the entire game, but one of the toughest IN THE ENTIRE SERIES for many reasons:
    1. It has 3 weak spots (stomach, chest & back), all tricky to hit, protecting its front with its spiked hands as it walks. Jump at the wrong time while aiming for the first two will cost you a life.
    2. If you happen to be behind the Death Egg Robot to hit its back, it will launch out bombs from behind its legs, which can catch you off guard. The back is also protected by the fire protruding out of its jet, so mess up your jump & that's one life less.
    3. The Death Egg Robot possesses an atttack where it will fly off and attempt to crush you. Thankfully, the attack is telegraphed by a lock-on.
    4. The Death Egg Robot can also fire off its fists at you, which are extremely fast.
  9. Unlike the previous nine stages (with the exception of Sky Chase Zone) that has only one boss, this one contains two bosses.

Good Qualities

  1. Watching the ensuing explosions after defeating both bosses is very satisfying.
  2. The music that plays during the level is awesome.
  3. While tedious, the Death Egg Robot boss is a much more epic and difficult final boss encounter compared to the first game's Final Zone.
  4. The heroic ending of this game is more rewarding than its predecessor.

  1. As Silver Sonic is coming down, you should spin charge him, before he starts his first attack.
  2. Wait until the Death Egg robot stands still before hitting its weak spot. Also when it comes down, try standing near it, for it will give you a chance to hit the weak spot.
  3. A much easier way to hit the Death Egg Robot, is to wait until after it does the flying crush attack, as after it does it will lunge down low enough for you to hit it, then spin dash out of the way as it fires its fist as you, then avoid the flying crush attack, rinse as repeat.
  4. Be sure you have as many lives and continues as possible.
