Great Bay Temple (The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask)

From Atrocious Gameplay Wiki

The Great Bay Temple is a level in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask and its remake on the 3DS, it is the main dungeon of The Great Bay, the third main area and is overall the third dungeon in the game. While not as bad as the Water Temple from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time previously, this level is infamous for its difficulty.

Why It's Anything But "Great"

  1. It has many of the same problems as the Water Temple:
    • Maze-like design.
    • Puzzles are annoying.
    • Switching the water levels is very repetitive.
  2. Cheap enemy placements.
  3. The Great Bay Temple is a huge difficulty spike, this level is right towards the middle of the game.
  4. Dull music, it sounds more like something out of a Metroid game.
  5. When going for 100% completion, you must also find all Stray Fairies scattered around the level, and this can be tedious.
  6. Like with the other 3 dungeons, you must dedicate as much in-game time as possible, because if you are forced to use the Song of Time to return to Day 1, almost all your progress will be lost.
  7. Very annoying boss battle with Gyorg.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. This level introduces the Ice Arrows and unlike in Ocarina of Time, they are actually useful.
  2. The Zora mask and the freedom of movement it gives while underwater are a big improvement over the Iron Boots.
  3. Very colorful aesthetic.
