Jasper Batt Jr. (No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle)

From Atrocious Gameplay Wiki

Jasper Batt Jr. is the main villain and boss fight of No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle. He's the main boss of the final level, the fifteenth and final boss of the game, and for over eight years, the final boss of the entire No More Heroes series.

After his debut, he not only became one of the most despised characters & bosses in the No More Heroes franchise, but also one of the most scorned bosses and characters in all of gaming past, present & future.

Why He Sucks

  1. Much like the case with Lucien and other nasty bosses, Jasper is a hateful villain character for the following reasons.
    1. Despite being the UAA's number 1 assassin, do you really know what he does? Nothing!! The only thing he did really is send his henchmen to do all the dirty work for him. (Shouldn't he do all the killing on his own if he's rank 1?!)
    2. Jasper sent his minions kill Travis' best friend at the beginning of the game.
    3. He tries to trick Travis by making him think that he killed Travis' brother Henry, his girlfrend Sylvia and his friend Shinobu.
    4. When Travis confronts Jasper, he does all that clichéd monologuing, brings a false dramatic moment (seen in point 3) and proceeds to give you a shockingly lame final battle.
  2. The first phase of Jasper is so easy, that you can beat him without taking damage once, with no problem at all.
  3. However, to continue the fight, there is a point in which you must lose a Quick Time Event against him. The problem is, you wouldn't know that first time playing it unless you looked it up.
  4. The second phase goes from pathetic to an absolute nightmare. Jasper has attacks that are extremely hard to dodge, specifically a triple teleport punch.
    • He also has others, like a grab and a swarm of laser bats.
    • Worst yet, after losing a certain amount of health, he starts throwing air waves every time he uses his teleport punch attack, making it even harder to dodge.
  5. Jasper's second form, pictured above, also rips-off Batman. Really, it's a Batman-Joker-Superman mix-up!
  6. If you are near a window and Jasper hits you, there is a good chance that he'll knock you out and break the glass, making you fall from the building & die instantly.
  7. Even if you somehow managed to defeat form 2, Jasper reveals his third form which is a giant parade float... this has to be one of the single worst concepts for a boss in video game history, let alone a final boss.
    1. Granted, the No More Heroes series IS known for its off-kilter humor, but that is taking it far too literally and figuratively.
  8. The third phase, while not as hellish as the previous one, is very annoying due to the position of the camera and Jasper's attacks being extremely powerful, with a long range as well. It's ridiculously confusing because he can punch you from quite literally anywhere in the room!
  9. Jasper has one of the most grating voices ever recorded for a video game. Gameplay-wise, Jasper never shuts up. He's one of those boss fights with repetitive lines that will repeat over and over again. It gets irritating. Real fast.
  10. Jasper's death cut-scene is beyond unsatisfying: as he explodes in his parade balloon form, he dies with a huge grin on his face and doesn't scream in agony!!! Even Lucien, as anticlimatic as his defeat was, at least screamed in agony!
  11. There is a theory that says that Suda51 made this boss awful on purpose to tell the message that revenge is never satisfying. However if that is the case, that doesn't justify ruining the game's final boss and doesn't excuse such a wretched mess of a character!!
    • Even worse, when you consider that Travis establishes having more of a reason to face Jasper other than just revenge, after beating Alice. He wants to shut down the UAA and stop the needless killing and violence.
  12. Extremely poor follow-up. For one thing, the previous boss was Alice, who is an incredibly memorable character with a great personality and an interesting backstory... Then we have Jasper, who is nothing more than a whiny brat with an extremely annoying personality and voice.
  13. For nearly eight years, this served as the big finale of the No More Heroes series.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Each one of Jasper's theme songs are amazing.
  2. Jasper has a good variety of attacks.
  3. The way Travis destroys Jasper in his last form is somewhat funny. From that perspective, you're getting the last laugh on the bastard, so more power to ya.
  4. The third entry in the No More Heroes series, No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Back, was made, so Jasper is thankfully not the final boss in the No More Heroes series.
