Mogenar may not be as hard as the Boost Guarding and Spider Guarding, but even then he is quite tedeious for many Players.

Mogenar is an antagonist and boss fight in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. He's the main boss of the Bryyo Leviathan Core, which is the first Leviathan Seed in the game, the first Leviathan Guarding boss of the game, the third boss of Bryyo (which is the third level of the game), and is overall the fifth boss of the entire game.

While not as bad as the Boost Guardian and Spider Guardian, Mogenar has still been disliked for his tediousness and difficulty.

Why He Sucks

  1. Mogenar is very large, meaning that it's hard to avoid most of his attacks.
  2. Mogenar is somewhat a difficulty spike.
  3. Somewhat odd places for the cores, one of which is located on Mogenar's abdomen. Granted, this game is rated T, but even that is very disturbing by any standards.
  4. In order to damage Mogenar, you have to blast the four red energy cores on his body, then switch to Hyper Mode to damage the main cores. This however, is tedious for the following reasons.
    1. The Cores will only open when Mogenar is attacking, which are shielded when is not attacking.
    2. You can't Lock-On on the cores. You have to manly aim the cores by yourself.
    3. Mogenar is constantly moving, making it even more harder to hit the cores.
      • Adding the fact that the cores cannot be attacked when Mogenar is not attacking, and that Samus can't lock-on them, it's more frustrating.
    4. Sometimes the Cores will re-spawn in another area of Mogener's body, making you lose track on which core is which.
    5. At this point in the game, you (As Samus) most likely only have four to five Energy Tanks, which means you can only use your Hyper Mode three to four times, before you have to refill.
  5. Every time one of the cores is damage, Mogenar will charge up energy and have armed up boots. At this rate, the only way to get him out of that state is by using Morph Ball Bombs on his now armed boots, which is quite tedious as not only does the boots take a lot of hits, but Mogenar is constantly moving.
  6. Sometimes, after two or more of cores are damaged, Mogenar will unleash energy hands to gain the cores back, and if they reach him, he will gain back some health.
  7. In order to prevent Mogenar from regaining health, you have to manually shot the targets, which is tedious at you have free-aim even when locked-on, causing you (As Samus) to potentially miss them.
  8. Mogenar has quite a bit of health, even for him being the first Leviathan Guarding boss.
  9. Some of Mogenar's attacks can be a both tricky to avoid, most noticeably his energy laser attack that swipes across the arena.
  10. Very unpleasant cut scene after the battle, were Samus vomites out Phazon.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Mogenar has an awesome design.
  2. The soundtrack the plays is quite good.
  3. The boss can be nice to you, as after you damage the energy boots, you gain health and ammo pick-ups.
  4. After you defeat Mogenar, you are rewarded with the Hyper Ball, so at least this boss will be worth it.

Tips

  1. Keep track of one core at a time, as after damage enough times the core will glow silver.
  2. An easy way to damage the cores is by waiting until Mogenar uses his mouth laser, then use the Ice Missile on his face, as not only will it stun him, but the cores will be open for attacks.
  3. A much easier way to hit the core on his back and boots is to wait until Mogenar does his charge, as he will momentarily stand still for a few seconds.
