Pauline Spirit Battle (Super Smash Bros. Ultimate)

The Pauline Spirit Battle is a Legend-Class Spirit Battle in the Spirit Board mode/Adventure Mode: World of Light of Super Smash Bros Ultimate, which pits the player character against a Peach AI, Mario AI, and a Giant Donkey Kong AI.

While this would sound simple, the gimmicks in the fight make it one of the most disliked Spirit Battles in the game due to its high difficulty.

Why It Will Never Be A 1-UP Girl

  1. Peach pretty much always avoids conflict with you at all times and almost always dodges. This wouldn't be such a problem, if it weren't for the fact that you are on a time limit.
  2. Mario and a giant Donkey Kong will appear after a while and attempt to stop you, with DK being a hard hitter and Mario being a fast combo character.
  3. When Mario enters, he starts off wielding a hammer, which is extremely dangerous and annoying.
  4. The Timers are among the items that appear in this mission, and the CPUs will try to use them. If they grab any, the player character will slow down, but the match timer will not.
    • Speaking of which, the Timer serves no good purpose for being in this battle.
  5. Even when you have taken out Mario and Donkey Kong, Peach running away from you like a coward still makes it near-impossible to knock her out within the time limit.
  6. Your jumping power is reduced. Again, it wouldn't be such a problem, if it wasn't for the fact that you are on 75m, a stage that involves a lot of jumping. This essentially forces you to either equip a spirit that improves your jump or change your fighter to a floaty.
  7. In Story Mode, if you choose to save Sheik instead of Marth and Villager, then you have to go through this spirit and a Metal Sonic Spirit, forcing you to restart all over again.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The idea/concept is creative, despite its flaws.
  2. The ability the Spirit has, Healing Shield, is decent, allowing you to heal a little bit when your shield is hit.

Tips

  1. As pointed out by Mr. Sakurai in the in-depth Min Min trailer, the easiest way to obtain the spirit is picking a support spirit that lets you start battles with a Staff equipped, and then you can use it on Peach, since the item is more powerful the farther away the opponent is.
  2. You can also hope that Peach SDs by missing her recovery, which is nearly impossible for obvious reasons.
  3. Peach might shield when hit with a heavy attack, so by using a Timer and then using a move that breaks shields (example: Bowser Bomb) you can then push her in midair after the shield break to make her fall into the blastzone, since you can't grab ledges while your shield is broken.
  4. Alternatively, you can camp near the walk-off blastzone in the top left, and using Spirits that enhance your throw, simply back throw the CPUs off stage. (Follow up with a dash attack or another throw if it doesn't kill.)
