Shiny Pokémon

From Atrocious Gameplay Wiki

What is the point of these different colors if there's nothing different?

Shiny Pokémon are alternate versions of Normal Pokémon. They are very rare to find, and also bad for many reasons.

Why They Suck

  1. Shiny Pokemon, aside from having the alternate color scheme, are exactly the same as regular Pokémon, making them a pretty lazy gimmick.
  2. Given how rare they are to find, Shiny Pokémon are just a waste of time and tiring.
  3. Most Pokémon fans only search for the Pokémon to find and catch the Shiny form, which will take a very long time.
  4. Sometimes, you will encounter a Shiny before you even get any Pokeballs, making it very frustrating if that happens.
  5. Lots of Shiny Pokémon colors look ugly with bad colors, mostly having green or pink, such as Ursaring and Crobat, or are barely changed at all from the original color, the most infamous examples being Gengar and Garchomp.
    • Due to the minor change in color, a player won't know if they've found a Shiny.
  6. There is never any motivation for needing to catch a Shiny, thus making it pointless to have them other than showing off.
  7. The worst part they can self destruct or explode making the player angry.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Some Shiny Pokémon do have nice palette swaps, like Toxel, Gyarados, Slugma, Rayquaza etc.
  2. There are a few methods to make finding Shinies easier, such as mass outbreak farming in Pokemon Legends: Arceus.
  3. Although certain Pokémon have terrible looking shiny forms, they have very distinct mega evolution forms, the best of which are Gengar, Rayquaza and Gyarados.
  4. Recent Pokémon games make shiny Pokémon more obvious to spot, such as the visible color change before activating a battle with it, a sound effect, and stars flying out of said Pokémon, which can help people find shinies that barely look different.
  5. In Pokémon Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver, you can catch the Shiny Gyarados at the Lake of Rage, as that Gyarados is a part of the story. Currently, it is probably the easiest Shiny to catch.
  6. Considering how rare and sought-after Shiny Pokémon are, encountering one while playing Pokémon games can be considered very lucky to some.
