Sleep Ability (Kirby)

From Atrocious Gameplay Wiki
"The sleep power-up. IT'S BAD." ― Nathaniel Bandy, various TRIGGERED! videos about Kirby

Sleep is a Copy Ability in the Kirby series. It allows Kirby to just sleep, and is arguably the WORST Copy Ability in the entire series.

Behold! The worst thing Nintendo itself has gave us! The Sleep Ability!

Why It (Intentionally?) Should Be Put To Sleep

  1. If Kirby gets the Sleep ability, he will sleep for 5 seconds, and cannot move at all, which is very crappy and pointless. Copy Abilities should be helpful, not the opposite!
  2. It leaves Kirby extremely vulnerable.
  3. Also, Kirby can not discard it, so he is forced to sleep, unless if an enemy hits him, making the ability feel like an unskippable cutscene.
  4. Sometimes, it even appears as an obstacle. For example, there is a segment in Kirby Super Star's Great Cave Offensive subgame, where Kirby has to get to the end, all while dodging the Ability Capsules that give the Sleep Ability. If Kirby touches those Ability Capsules, he sleeps and gets blown away by some heavy wind all the way back to the beginning. This can be very painful, especially if you have favorite abilities like Hammer.
  5. Also, in The Arena and its harder remake, The True Arena, the Sleep Ability Capsules will appear as abilities you can get in the Rest Areas, making this experience COMPLETELY unforgiving.
  6. They also appear in the Ability Roulette, and if you get the Sleep Ability, you're screwed.
  7. The enemies that grant that ability, the Noddy species, are placed in cheap locations.
  8. Not to mention, it can even sometimes waste your playing time.
  9. It is made even worse in the "Kirby: Right Back At Ya!" anime, where it lets Kirby sleep forever, and we mean F-O-R-E-V-E-R.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. It willingly became good in some Kirby games. If you get it and use commands, it can either defeat all enemies on the screen or recover some health Kirby lost.
  2. Inhalling 2 Noddys can trigger the Ability Roulette too, and in Kirby and The Amazing Mirror it automaticaly gives Smash ability if no button is pressed until the roulette ends.
  3. It became much better in Kirby: Battle Royale, where Kirby can batter foes with a pillow!
