Sport Bikes (Midnight Club: Los Angeles)

"Get on a bike buddy, on a bike!" ― Andrew, after defeating him in a B-Class car

Too fast, too nimble for a low cost

A sportbike, or sports bike, is a motorcycle optimized for speed, acceleration, braking, and cornering on paved roads, typically at the expense of comfort and fuel economy by comparison with other motorcycles.

In mh:awesomegames:Midnight Club: Los Angeles, there are four motorcycles included in the game, with three Ducatis, namely the Monster S4RS, 999R and 1098R (via South Central Vehicle Pack 2) and one Kawasaki, the Ninja ZX-14. They are notorious for their low cost and extremely high performance, especially having very very fast acceleration and sharp turning to compensate for their very low damage tolerance, being very very easy to get knocked off when crashing and taking longer to recover after a crash.

Why They are Extremely Overpowered

  1. They are extremely overpowered and broken vehicles, especially the last two motorcycles' (Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14 and Ducati 1098R) performance being shown to be higher than the 2006 Saleen S7 Twin Turbo and the 2004 Lamborghini Murciélago Roadster, the game's most expensive supercars.
  2. Their low cost, as well as their extremely fast acceleration and sharp handling, make certain users stick with these two-wheeled motorcycles over driving 4-wheeled cars.
  3. The game has an ending requirement of $1,000,000, which makes most users avoid the expensive exotics (except for the Lamborghini Murciélago Roadster DUB Edition, which can be won from the Downtown DUB Tournament on Hard Difficulty), and use the motorcycles due to their low cost and high stats.
  4. Despite many users winning the aforementioned Lamborghini, some of them would only use it for the Exotic missions, whilst remaining with the Ninja ZX-14/1098R for the rest of the game, likely due to it's lighter weight that can let it accelerate faster for it's low cost, despite being more prone to damage and being very very easy to fall off.
  5. The bikes, likely due to their lighter weight, have a major trade off, being able to accelerate faster but at the expense of being less durable, taking more damage at a faster pace, being very easy to fall off from and taking longer to recover after crashing.
  6. The first time you ride a motorcycle, if you have been using a car for most of the game, it will take some getting used to using the motorcycles, as they handle differently.
  7. If a motorcycle is hit by a traffic car, even from hitting the back of the car, the rider will get knocked off their bike, giving it an extreme amount of damage.
    • If you get rammed by a police officer at high speeds during a pursuit, you are likely to get arrested and a scene will show the player on foot getting arrested.
    • This is also, if one motorcycle rider is near the radius where the Roar ability is used, the rider will fall off the bike. This is however, good if you are using a car and racing against two motorcycle opponents in the same race.
  8. Most users online can tend to use motorcycles, likely due to their higher stats and being careful to use them to easily win races online.
  9. A maxed Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14 or Ducati 1098R with level 3 agro ability can be a total game-breaker, making it very hard to defeat them in online races if your car does not have the roar ability equipped.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. At least you are not required to get a motorcycle to progress through the main story, however, you still need to win 6 races on a motorcycle, and have to beat Andrew two times on a motorcycle, then need to earn a total of 35 motorcycle wins to be able to finish the motorcycle-only missions, especially having to defeat Oswaldo, the motorcycle champion.
  2. The last two motorcycles have an extremely low cost, with the Ducati 1098R from the DLC costing $15,000, and only $22,610 to max out, along with the Ninja ZX-14, costing $17,000 to buy with a max cost of only $34,250, making it a budget beast for those who want to save money, and can handle them properly, or can use the Lamborghini Murciélago Roadster DUB Edition once won from the Downtown DUB Tournament instead for the endgame to save money as well.
  3. If you have level 3 agro, you can hit the traffic without knocking the rider off the bike or damaging it.
  4. If you are more of a player that prefers to play the game with 4 wheeled cars, you can bypass the motorcycle-only missions and just do the rest of the game with the Lamborghini Murciélago Roadster DUB Edition, which can easily finish the game without having to learn how to handle it, or only use motorcycles until you defeat Oswaldo, the motorcycle champion who rides a blue Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14,
  5. Just like the cars, they can also be customized, with each motorcycle having two tails, tanks and cowls, as well as 10 rims from Performance Machines and RC Components, and two Pirelli tire compounds.
  6. They are also good for clearing Goal Attacks due to their faster speed, provided you can handle them well and avoid damaging them, in which jumping, hitting traffic cars and barriers can make them reach or exceed the 25% damage limit faster than 4-wheeled cars.

Tips

  1. Use the weight transfer when cornering on a motorcycle to take sharper turns.
  2. Do not use the cockpit view when riding motorcycles, especially it is easier to see on bikes when not on bumper or cockpit camera view.
  3. If you are racing in a fully upgraded Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder, Lamborghini Murciélago Roadster (either standard or DUB Edition), Ford Shelby Cobra Concept or Saleen S7 Twin Turbo, you can equip the Roar ability, and make sure you race against Lester and Oswaldo in the same race, as both racers ride Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14s (the fastest non-DLC motorcycle), then once they are in a near distance, you can use the roar ability to knock the riders off their bikes.

Trivia

  1. It is occasionally possible to spawn three motorcycle-riding opponents in the same race (Julian's Ducati 999R, Lester's Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14 and Oswaldo's Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14), which can only happen in exotics with level 1 upgrades or a fully upgraded Audi R8 4.2 FSI Quattro R tronic (Type 42), Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG (R230) or Saleen S302 Extreme (S-197).
