I completed the game and most of the difficulty can beĀ attributed to bullshit reasons rather than good design choices like:

-Awful camera angles in tight spaces. -The enemies can hit through walls and corners easily, but when the player can't. -Other than the TotG darkness zone gimmick, the player can't really see anything going on in darkly-lit areas especially when in tight spaces.

As for O+S if Ornstein attacks cannot go through Smough's body that alone will make the fight a lot more fairer IMO.
