The Breaking Point (Empire Earth: Art of Conquest)

From Atrocious Gameplay Wiki

The Breaking Point is the second mission from the Asian Campaign of Empire Earth: The Art of Conquest.

In this mission, the player must obtain the plans for the FTL Center by trading enough resources from other countries.

Why It Sucks

  1. You have to defend at least one university, otherwise the mission is failed.
    • Unlike Novaya Russia, where Grigor Stoyanovich is a warrior hero that can shoot, university are only technology buildings.
  2. Rebel Forces are constantly spawning, which can hinder your progress. This includes artillery, tanks, and Hyperions.
    • Adding to the fact that you have to prevent specific buildings to be destroyed, it can be painful.
  3. Your resources are limited, and there's no way to get stone, iron or gold, other than trading with other countries.
    • Stone cannot be get anywhere, except by destroying a certain building.
  4. Before being able to trade, you have to send a diplomat to a country's capitol. And even after that, you have to send a cargo truck to Taiwan's granary and Japan's settlements.
  5. The countries's trades can be difficult:
    1. Taiwan will trade troops for 2000 units of food. This not only is a problem, as the only way to get food is by ordering the citizen to get food from rice field, which can be attacked by the rebel forces, but it's also required, as you need at least 60 troops.
      • By the way, Taiwanian troops can be attacked by the rebel force as well.
    2. Russia will trade gold and iron for at least 10 troops that are sent from Taiwan to the fortress. However, as said before, taiwanian troops can be attacked by the rebel force, and prevent said troops to reach the fortress.
    3. Japan only requires 1000 iron per cargo truck. Problem is, you need Iron for other stuff as well (one of them being the cargo trucks that you need). Also, you have to do that five times, in order to get the FLC Center's plans.
  6. At one point, after obtaining the FTL Center's plans from Japan, the citizens will start to attack U.F.A.R., due to the worries about military expansions, forcing you to cut every troops to 10 units each. And may we remind you, Not only you have to defend at least one university, but you're also under the fire of respawning rebel forces's units, as well as have a requirement of 60 troops from taiwan.
  7. The FTL Center requires lots of resources, so hope you didn't waste stone, as you need 500 units of it.
    • You have to protect it as well from enemy attack, otherwise the mission fails as well.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. It's possible to save the game, load the scenery editor, load the saved game, save it again in the scenery editor, enable cheats, and allow yourself to win the game by typing "somebody set up us the bomb" (which works).
    • Funnily enough, the game's expansion has already cheat codes active.
  2. The Faster-Than-Light Center (a Time Machine) has a good amount of hitpoints, which can survive well, if protected.
  3. Rebel Forces's army, aside from hyperions, artillery (which is fragile, but does heavy damage) and tanks, is easy to deal. Too bad it respawns.
